The Way Back

Set during World War II, this survival drama follows a Polish officer wrongly imprisoned in a brutal Soviet labor camp after being betrayed under torture. He joins a small band of fellow inmates—including an American engineer, a Russian criminal, and others—who break out during a blizzard and attempt an arduous overland journey through Siberia, Mongolia, and the Gobi Desert in search of freedom. Along the way they are joined by a young Polish girl with a hidden past, and the group faces starvation, extreme weather, and personal loss as they push toward the borders of British India.
