Pieces a stranger can act on. Reviews of what is streaming now. Where-to-watch guides for a director, an actor, a decade or a language. Retrospectives on films that deserve a second look. Explainers on how the industry works, from dubbing to why a film is on one service in Chennai and another in Chicago. Five hundred to a thousand words is the usual length, and every film you mention links to its page here, so a reader can go straight from your recommendation to a play button.

We do not run gossip, box-office chatter or celebrity news. Plenty of sites do that already, and it is not why anyone comes here.

• Tell us about yourself below: the languages and eras you know, and a piece or two you would want to write. A link to anything you have written before helps, but it is not required.
• We reply, agree a first piece, and you write it. You can send it in any format that holds text.
• A person edits it and checks every film against the catalogue. Nothing is published without you seeing the edit.
• It goes out under your byline, on the site and in the newsletter when it fits, and stays yours: you may republish it elsewhere after it has appeared here.

This is a volunteer panel of writers, not a job. India Masala is an independent site without a budget for freelancers yet; if that changes, the people already writing here will hear first. What we can offer is an audience that is looking for exactly what you know, an editor who reads carefully, and a platform that takes Malayalam or Bhojpuri as seriously as Hindi.

Your writing has to be your own. We cannot publish text copied from elsewhere, or reviews of films you have not seen, and we take those two rules more seriously than any other.
