Set against the backdrop of communal riots in India, this drama follows a young Tamil Brahmin woman traveling home by bus with her infant son, who is asked to be looked after by a Bengali Muslim wildlife photographer for the trip. When religious violence erupts and a mob boards the bus questioning passengers about their faith, the two strangers are forced into a tense pretense to protect themselves, setting off a journey that tests their assumptions about identity and prejudice. Directed by Aparna Sen, the film unfolds mainly in English with occasional Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali dialogue.
