Mississippi Masala

After being forced out of Uganda during Idi Amin's expulsion of Asians in 1972, an Indian family eventually settles in small-town Mississippi, where they run motels alongside relatives. Years later, their daughter Mina falls for Demetrius, a Black carpet-cleaner, and their budding romance stirs tension and disapproval within both the Indian and African-American communities. The film follows how these families and communities react to the couple's relationship, set against the lingering effects of displacement and prejudice.
