Hothat Brishti

This 1998 Bengali romance, directed by Basu Chatterjee and adapted from the Tamil film Kadhal Kottai, follows Deepa, a young woman searching for work in Kolkata, and Ajit, a traveling company employee who recovers her lost bag of certificates and returns it to her. Their exchange of letters and phone calls sparks a long-distance romance, even as other suitors and admirers, family pressures, and job troubles complicate their lives in Taramati, Jaisalmer, and Kolkata. As circumstances repeatedly bring them physically close without either recognizing the other, their story unfolds through missed connections and mistaken identities.
