Set in early 20th-century Bengal and adapted from Rabindranath Tagore's novel, this period drama centers on Binodini, a young widow who becomes entangled in a secret relationship with Mahendra, a man who once courted her. The story also traces her uneasy bond with Mahendra's wife Asha, and her conflicted emotions toward Behari, Mahendra's close friend since childhood. Directed by Rituparno Ghosh, the film was later dubbed into Hindi for international release.
