In this 1977 Telugu fantasy comedy, a village leader named Satyam clashes with a ruthless landlord, Rudrayya, whose daughter Savitri he loves, prompting the landlord to plot his death. After his spirit is wrongly dispatched to the afterlife, Satyam causes an uproar first in heaven and then in the underworld, sparring with the lord of death, Yama, and his scribe Chitragupta over the rules governing life and death. The comedy plays out as these otherworldly figures are pulled into the human world to settle the dispute, with the film's satirical dialogue also poking fun at the political climate of its time.
