Directed by K. Balachander — Gemini Ganesan · Delhi Ganesh · Manorama · Kamal Haasan · Nassar · Charle · Janagaraj · Seetha

This 1988 Tamil drama, directed by K. Balachander as a remake of his own Telugu film Rudraveena, centers on a respected Carnatic musician known for his rigid, caste-conscious views and his younger son, who grows from a mischievous youth into a socially conscious man. The son's exposure to poverty, inequality and a strong-willed, secular-minded woman he falls for drives a deepening rift with his father over questions of caste and social responsibility. The story traces how the son's efforts to reform his community eventually reshape his father's outlook.

Where to watch in USA

We checked the streaming catalogues and it isn’t on any service we cover — in any country, not just yours. Films leave and return, so this can change.

We check JioHotstar, Eros Now, Sun NXT, Prime Video, ZEE5 and 13 others. If it is streaming somewhere we don’t read, it won’t show up here — tell us and we’ll add it.
