Tyagi follows Shankar, an elder son who repeatedly sacrifices his own comfort, property and future to support his two younger brothers, Shakti and Prem. His devotion is tested when the brothers' misdeeds—ranging from a scandal involving a woman named Sujata to entanglements with a dangerous underworld figure named Dabla—bring hardship upon Shankar's own family. Years later, as the family's troubles resurface through the next generation, Shankar is once again called upon to intervene and protect those he loves, at great personal cost.
