Set against the traditional music and dance culture of the Thanjavur region, this 1968 Tamil drama follows a temperamental nadaswaram musician named Shanmugasundaram and a Bharatanatyam dancer named Mohanambal who develop mutual affection but are held back by their own pride and by the interference of family and outsiders. As the two artists cross paths repeatedly through performances and personal setbacks, they must navigate obstacles created both by themselves and by people around them who complicate their bond. Directed by A. P. Nagarajan and based on a serialized novel, the film blends romance with depictions of classical dance and nadaswaram music.
