Thenavattu follows Kottai, a blacksmith from Ramnad who travels to Chennai with his friend Vellaiayan in search of work. They end up employed by Kailasam, a powerful and feared local figure, and Kottai gradually falls for a gentle music teacher named Gayathri while also uncovering the darker purpose behind the weapons he has been asked to forge. Tensions rise when Kailasam's unruly son begins harassing Gayathri, setting the stage for a confrontation.
