Thambi tells the story of a young man, Thambi Velu Thondaiman, who cannot stand seeing cruelty and corruption around him and repeatedly clashes with a wealthy local criminal named Sankara Pandian. A chance encounter with a performer named Archana, whom he first upsets and later protects from harassment, sparks a one-sided romance as she grows fond of him while he keeps her at a distance due to the danger surrounding his life. Through a flashback shared at his old school, the film reveals the tragic loss of his family, which pushed him toward his relentless crusade against violence in the city.
