Shabd follows Shaukat Vashisht, a celebrated author who has struggled creatively since an early literary triumph, and his wife Antara, a college lecturer. When he decides to craft a new story loosely based on Antara, he begins closely watching her and discovers she has caught the attention of a young teacher named Yash, though she has kept both her marriage and this admirer secret.
