Eager to break away from his family's struggling hair-oil trade, a young man agrees to deliver a vintage 1942 truck across India's desert region to a coastal buyer, only to realize the vehicle doubles as an old-fashioned mobile cinema. During the trip he picks up a runaway boy, an aging showman, and a nomadic woman, and together they cross arid terrain, run into corrupt officials and a powerful figure controlling the water supply, all while relying on the truck's antique projectors and film reels to see them through. The trek becomes a personal awakening for the driver as the group makes its way toward a distant fair.
