Ram ke Naam

Hindi · 1992 · 75 min · documentary

Directed by Anand Patwardhan

This 1992 documentary by Anand Patwardhan examines the Hindu nationalist push led by the Vishva Hindu Parishad and allied political figures to construct a temple at the disputed Babri Masjid site in Ayodhya, tracing the movement's rallies and rhetoric alongside the sectarian violence it provoked. Through interviews with local Muslim residents, young movement volunteers, a dismissed tax official, and a Hindu priest connected to the site, the film contrasts official narratives with dissenting and skeptical voices. It was filmed and released shortly before the mosque's demolition later that year.
