Raavanan

Loosely inspired by the Ramayana, this Tamil action-drama directed by Mani Ratnam follows a hard-edged police officer whose wife is abducted by a tribal rebel leader during her boat trip in the forest. As he leads a manhunt to rescue her, she gradually uncovers the personal tragedy and grievances that drove her captor to violence, complicating her feelings toward him. Shot across multiple Indian locations, the film was simultaneously produced in Hindi with a partly different cast, and later dubbed in Telugu and remade in Bengali.
