A struggling young lawyer who keeps losing his lodgings due to unpaid rent disguises himself as an elderly man to secure a room, and ends up falling for his landlord's daughter. Their romance is complicated by scheming relatives and a manipulative friend whose own troubled marriage and financial desperation set off a chain of betrayals, blackmail, and violence. The couple's bond is tested as circumstances draw them into a web of family conflict and crime that threatens their future together.
