After witnessing his father's suicide following a bank's foreclosure on their family circus, a man grows up to orchestrate a string of daring robberies against the same Chicago bank as an act of revenge. A police officer and his partner are brought in to track down the elusive thief, whose skills as a performer and illusionist make him difficult to catch, while a romance develops involving an acrobat at the revived circus.
