Paduvaaralli Pandavaru

Kannada · 1978 · 146 min

Directed by Puttanna Kanagal — Ambareesh

Directed by Puttanna Kanagal, this 1978 Kannada drama transposes the Mahabharata into a village setting, centering on tensions between a local landowning zamindar and five young men whose rivalry echoes the age-old feud between the Pandavas and Kauravas. Ambareesh, Ramakrishna and Jai Jagadish play the central figures, with Aarathi appearing in an extended role as a journalist. Beyond its mythological parallels, the story examines the strains of a rigid feudal order and the pushback it provokes from the protagonists.
