A self-absorbed, wealthy businessman initially helps a group of six orphaned girls to boost his own reputation, but grows genuinely attached to them and takes on the role of their guardian. Through this work he meets a caring woman, and the two grow close as they support the girls together. His life takes a difficult turn when he faces a serious health crisis that he tries to keep hidden from those he loves.
