Set in the village of Vellankoil, this 1980 Tamil drama follows a doctor who settles there seeking a quiet life and repeatedly encounters a disabled young man attempting suicide out of despair over his condition. As she treats and grows close to him, their bond develops alongside subplots involving a cousin's unrequited affection, a feared village guardsman who protects the doctor from a hostile landlord, and the doctor's own hidden past involving a young daughter. The story builds toward a resolution that examines caste, disability, and social prejudice within the village community.
