This 1987 Kannada drama, adapted from John Steinbeck's novella The Pearl, follows Aithu, a pearl diver, and the difficulties that arise after he discovers a valuable pearl in the sea and attempts to sell it. Directed by Shankar Nag and starring Rajkumar, it was made with notable technical ambition for its time, including an underwater sequence filmed in the ocean. Though it did not perform strongly commercially, it has since gained recognition as a landmark work in Kannada cinema.
