This 1985 Hindi drama, directed by Bapu and starring Anil Kapoor and Vijayta Pandit, follows Shekhar, who wants to marry Roopa, the cherished daughter of a man named Choudhury. Their families' meeting to settle the match collapses when Shekhar's stepmother demands a large dowry that Choudhury cannot pay, prompting him to break off the engagement and pursue another match for his daughter. Left heartbroken, Shekhar and Roopa are forced to consider how to respond to the sudden turn of events. The film is a remake of a 1982 Tamil movie.
