Set in Bombay, this Shyam Benegal drama follows a teenage boy named Riyaz who lives with his grandmother and her sister, an elderly woman known as Mammo. Mammo, originally from Panipat, was separated from her homeland after Partition and now survives in India on a temporary visa, repeatedly renewing it through visits to the local police station. The story traces the family's daily struggles and bonds as bureaucratic and political obstacles threaten to tear them apart.
