Mahanadhi follows Krishnaswamy, a widower raising his two children and mother-in-law in a village near Kumbakonam, whose life unravels after he is lured into a fraudulent chit fund scheme by a Madras-based swindler. Wrongfully imprisoned as a result of the scam, he returns home to find his family scattered and his children caught up in exploitation and trafficking. The 1994 Tamil drama, directed by Santhana Bharathi and co-written by Kamal Haasan, explores themes of corruption and child trafficking through the family's ordeal.
