Decades after India's independence, an aging Englishwoman travels back to Madras with her granddaughter to trace a man she loved in her youth, setting off a search through the city's past and present. The story flashes back to the 1940s, when she was the British governor's daughter and fell for a local washerman-wrestler who defied colonial officials and clashed with a cruel British officer vying for her affection. The narrative moves between her present-day quest for answers and the unfolding of their forbidden romance under British rule.

Where to watch in USA

We checked the streaming catalogues and it isn’t on any service we cover — in any country, not just yours. Films leave and return, so this can change.

We check JioHotstar, Eros Now, Sun NXT, Prime Video, ZEE5 and 13 others. If it is streaming somewhere we don’t read, it won’t show up here — tell us and we’ll add it.
