After his grandfather's death drives him from his village, a young man named Pratap relocates to Mumbai and is taken in by a chawl owner whose son he once rescued. As his adopted family becomes entangled in a romance opposed by a wealthy builder, and the community faces engineered riots, killings and destruction tied to a resort development scheme, Pratap grows into a fierce advocate for ordinary people standing up against corruption and violence, while clashing with a crusading journalist he initially mocks.
