Set against British India of the 1940s, this musical period drama follows the bond between an English girl, Catherine, and Kisna, an Indian villager turned poet and teacher, whose friendship deepens into romance as the independence movement intensifies. As unrest spreads and Catherine becomes a target amid rising anti-colonial anger, Kisna undertakes to guide her to safety, forcing him to weigh his personal feelings against loyalty to his family, his community, and his country's fight for freedom. Directed by Subhash Ghai, the film stars Vivek Oberoi and Antonia Bernath with music by A. R. Rahman and Ismail Darbar.
