In Pune, a rigidly rule-bound matriarch, Nirmala Gupta, keeps her extended household in strict order, even though her husband and son quietly resent her control. When her daughter-in-law's free-spirited younger sister Manju comes to stay, she wins over most of the family with her playful nature, unsettling the household's usual discipline and drawing Nirmala's disapproval. Tensions rise when Manju's antics expose the family's true feelings about Nirmala's strictness, setting off a family crisis that forces everyone to reconsider their relationships.
