A wealthy young man loses his sanity after the woman he loved marries a neighbor and later takes her own life. Hoping marriage might restore his mental health, his father convinces a courtesan to pose as his wife, setting off tangled family relationships as she navigates hostility from his relatives, unwanted attention from the scheming neighbor, and unexpected affection from his younger brother. Her presence gradually reshapes the household as old secrets and hidden motives come to light.
