Set in a Chitpavan Brahmin household in Konkan between the 1930s and 1950s, the story follows patriarch Hari Damle after his younger brother dies before consummating his marriage to a child bride, Uma. Hari refuses to let the community impose traditional widowhood restrictions on her and continues to shield and support her as she grows up, a stance that fuels suspicion and tension within his own family, including his wife. The film traces the emotional fallout of this decision across the decades that follow.
