This 1953 historical drama traces the life of Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi, from her childhood as a spirited girl named Manu who is groomed by a royal adviser into a skilled and determined future ruler. Married at a young age to the aging king of Jhansi, she later adopts a son whom British authorities refuse to recognize as heir, deepening her conflict with colonial rule. Set during the 1857 uprising, the film follows her transformation into a warrior queen who leads her forces against British forces.
