Set in colonial-era India, the story follows Bansiram, an old man entrusted with a piece of land gifted by a benevolent landowner. After the landowner's death, his greedy son tries to seize the property, but Bansiram turns to the British authorities to protect his claim. Years later, the son's successor, Devraj, returns to manage the estate and encounters an aging, confused Bansiram along with his grandson, Chotu, who has his own plans for the land, setting off a fresh dispute over its fate.
