I Am

This 2010 Hindi anthology, crowdfunded by hundreds of individual backers, weaves together four separate narratives that each explore a form of personal dread rooted in true accounts. The segments follow a woman pursuing motherhood through a sperm donor, a Kashmiri Pandit revisiting her homeland years after fleeing communal violence, a filmmaker confronting buried trauma from childhood abuse while questioning his sexuality, and a gay man in Mumbai whose encounter with another man turns dangerous after police intervene. Shot across multiple Indian languages with subtitles, the film links its characters across the different stories.
