After twelve years living in the United States, Varun returns to Hyderabad and finds himself out of step with the country he grew up in. Played by writer-director Nagesh Kukunoor in his acting debut, Varun navigates the gap between American-style dating and Indian expectations around arranged marriage while pursuing a romance with a local doctor. Shot mainly in English with some Telugu and Hindi, the film is considered an early landmark of Indian independent cinema.
