Guru

Set against the backdrop of India's independence era and beyond, this Tamil film follows a boy whose parents suffer violent tragedy, who grows into Ashok, a wealthy philanthropist running an orphanage in his mother's memory. Unknown to most, Ashok secretly operates as a masked outlaw called Guru to fund his charitable work, drawing the attention of police and clashing with a criminal gang while also navigating a romance with a police officer's niece. Directed by I. V. Sasi and starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, the film was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu as a remake of an earlier Hindi feature.
