A lively schoolgirl named Kusum, nicknamed Guddi, is infatuated with movie star Dharmendra, blurring the line between his on-screen heroics and his real self. When her family learns how deep this fixation runs, her brother-in-law's relative and uncle arrange for her to see the actual workings of the film industry, hoping to help her separate fantasy from reality. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherkee and written by Gulzar, the film marked Jaya Bachchan's debut and features numerous Bollywood stars appearing as themselves.
