This 1972 Tamil film tells the story of Anthony, a coffin maker devoted to raising his daughter Marie after his wife's death. Years later, when Marie becomes romantically involved with a man from a different faith, Anthony's attempts to secure their marriage lead to tragedy and his imprisonment, while his relationship with his childhood friend Lawrence—now a police officer—is tested between duty and loyalty. Loosely inspired by Victor Hugo's classic novel, the film explores themes of faith, family obligation, and moral conflict.
