In New Orleans, a young woman pursuing a writing career begins a whirlwind romance with a seemingly ideal man, even as her mother, who believes strongly in astrology, grows increasingly uneasy about the relationship. As the couple moves toward marriage, the mother's fears—rooted in memories of an abusive past relationship—drive a wedge between her and her daughter, who dismisses her concerns as irrational. The film follows their strained bond as unsettling details about the new boyfriend surface.
