This 2003 Indian drama, directed by Ujjwal Chatterjee, dramatizes the real-life experience of Sushmita Banerjee, a Bengali Hindu woman who wed an Afghan man and relocated with him to Afghanistan in 1989. As Taliban rule tightens and she resists pressure to convert to Islam, she faces a death sentence and is forced to plan her escape back to India by 1995.
