Set in a village dominated by a ruthless landlord named Karunakaran, this 1988 Tamil drama follows Dhanakodi, a principled police officer newly posted there, as he tries to bring the tyrant to justice. The story also traces the past of Periasamy, an orphan recently released from prison, whose sister Lakshmi's romance and marriage to the landlord's son unravels into betrayal and tragedy at the family's hands. Directed by P. Vasu and featuring Prabhu, Rupini and Chithra, the film had a successful theatrical run and was later remade in several other Indian languages.
