This 1991 Tamil drama, marking director Kasthuri Raja's debut, centers on Mayandi, a tough village man who marries his cousin Solaiyamma despite her fear of him, while a city youth named Murugesan falls for her younger sister Kasthuri. After hardship strains Mayandi's marriage, he later turns his attention to raising his child and finds himself entangled with Kasthuri and her disapproving family, as well as Murugesan's landlord father who opposes the young couple's romance. The film, led by Rajkiran and Meena, became a notable hit and was later remade in Telugu.
