Dhadkan is a 2000 Hindi musical romance in which a wealthy young woman, torn between her impoverished first love Dev and the wealthy, principled man her family arranges for her to marry, Ram, finds her life reshaped by family pressures and rivalries within her new household. Directed by Dharmesh Darshan and starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Shilpa Shetty and Mahima Chaudhry, the story draws loosely on Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. It was a box-office hit on release and earned several Filmfare Award nominations and wins.
