In this 1967 Bengali mystery directed by Satyajit Ray and based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay's story, detective Byomkesh Bakshi is hired by a retired judge to trace a vanished actress rumored to be hiding among the outcasts sheltered at his rural nursery estate. When the judge is murdered soon after, followed by another killing on the property, Byomkesh and his companion Ajit must question the estate's residents to uncover the connections between the old film scandal, the missing woman, and the deaths.
