This 1962 Hindi romantic comedy-thriller follows Shekhar, a small-town singer whose romance with a wealthy man's daughter is opposed because he lacks status and fortune. After following her family to Calcutta, he lands in police custody, where his uncanny resemblance to a jailed gangster from the city's Chinatown draws him into a dangerous case of mistaken identity and a hidden family connection. The story mixes comedy, crime and romance as his double life brings unexpected complications.
