In this 1988 Hindi drama directed by J. K. Bihari, a wealthy family is ruled by its domineering matriarch Kamla, who runs both the household and the business while her husband Kailash stays home. When her elder son Suraj marries Shalu, a woman from a less prosperous background, against his mother's wishes, Kamla sets out with her cunning secretary to make life difficult for the new bride. Shalu endures repeated mistreatment while trying to fit into the family, supported quietly by her father-in-law and younger brother-in-law, as tensions within the household build toward a confrontation.
