Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain

This 2014 English-language drama, directed by Ravi Kumar and inspired by Sanjoy Hazarika's book on the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, follows a rickshaw driver named Dilip who takes a job at a Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal to support his family. As the plant's management cuts costs and ignores mounting safety warnings from a concerned safety officer and a local journalist, the story builds toward the catastrophic gas leak that devastated the city. The film features Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton, Kal Penn, Rajpal Yadav, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Fagun Thakrar, and had a long, delayed path to release before opening in the US and India in late 2014.
