Set during the 1947 partition of India, this Hindi-language drama follows Begum Jaan, who runs a brothel that finds itself directly on the newly drawn border line separating India and Pakistan. As officials pressure her and her household of women to abandon their home, she and her companions choose to resist rather than leave peacefully, arming and training themselves against mounting threats. The story is a Hindi remake of an earlier Bengali film and stars Vidya Balan in the title role.
