Aparajito

This continuation of a Bengali family's story follows young Apu and his parents as they relocate from their village to Varanasi, where his father works as a priest before dying, leaving his mother to support them alone. The two then move back to rural Bengal, where Apu insists on attending school despite his family's modest means, eventually earning a scholarship that takes him to Kolkata for further education while his mother remains behind, increasingly isolated by his absence. The film traces Apu's growth from boyhood to young adulthood against the backdrop of his mother's quiet sacrifices and longing.
