Gulzar's 1975 political drama follows a hotel manager who falls for and marries a politician's daughter, only for the couple to grow apart and separate after a few years. The story unfolds when the two reunite by chance at his hotel during her election campaign, years after their marriage ended, forcing them to confront their unresolved feelings. The film became notable for its music by R.D. Burman and Gulzar, and for facing a brief ban tied to political controversy around its perceived resemblance to a real public figure.
